Every morning I sit at my window And a man runs by no matter the weather blazing hot sun scorching pavement thirty degree drizzle he keeps running I don't think he's missed a day I admire his persistence Admire it beccause I don't have it The environment has to be just right for me I wonder what he's running toward a 5K a 10K a marathon Better health Being around longer for his kids or maybe what he's running from Unhappy home life fear about the future Maybe, as a cousin once said This is the only moment he can get alone all day Sometimes I imagine him like Nick in the Great Gatsby Always grasping at something he can never quite seem to catch and in those moments I feel closest to this running man as I call him Aren't we all, always, running toward some ever-elusive goal that green light on the dock?
