Sewing the World Back Together
If I could knit back the fabric of humanity with knitting needles forged in love I would If I could ensure everyone was taught to prioritize objective information and critical thinking over emotion I would If I could make compassion a balm for vitriol and fear I would Because we are all guilty of lashing out at one another of close mindedness of speaking before listening of writing people off before we ever connect to their humanity we are all guilty of conflating identity personhood worthiness with party vote beliefs Make me an instrument of thy peace St. Francis cried and I echo this prayer as I imagine sewing seeds of compassion in festering wounds of hurt seeds of listening where there was only single mindedness for when we see one another as "other" denounce one another we will never hold a candle to threats like climate change and we will always be stuck choosing between two bad options this country was built on the backs of people who wanted better but that elusive concept of "better" -- not more power but more for ALL -- can only be reached together. Better together. Divided we fall.
